my girl.

My baby girl isn't going to be a baby for much longer, I fear.

Today I was loving her little toes...

and her soft, graceful little neck-rolls...

and the way she sits in so many funny, flexible positions...

Not to mention her chubby cheeks, little hands, her belly, and pretty much everything about her.

11 months.

New developments in Miss Lily's life in the last month:
  • She's sleeping from 6:30 or 7 p.m. to about 6:30/7 a.m. again. We got way off schedule after Christmas, but thanks to Cole (I'm a wimp), we're sleeping through the night again!
  • Four teeth.
  • Two 1-hour or less naps a day.
  • She can mimic a "moo" sound.
  • She loves playing with apps on our iPod/iPhone. Her favorite is Peekaboo Barn.
  • She "talks" so much now in her jibber jabber language. This includes singing while rocking back and forth. I love it!
  • She shakes her head "No" and will copy us when we do it. She thinks it's funny, which makes disciplining with a straight face difficult.
  • Pulls herself up on furniture, cruises, and likes to drop stuff and bend down to pick it up.
  • She'll sometimes give squeeze hugs.

I know I'm a bit biased, but I think she gets funnier, cuter, and more beautiful every single month. Just a few more weeks and we'll have a one-year-old! Happy 11 months, my sweet baby girl!

rock on, baby girl.

Growing up I loved music, especially going to concerts. I'd describe myself as somewhat of a reserved, inhibited person, but there was something about concerts that let me be free and just let loose--dance barefoot in the grass, sing at the top of my lungs, close my eyes and get lost in the music (cheesy, but true). I haven't been to a concert in a long time, and definitely not since Lily was born. On Saturday, Cole, Lily, some friends and I all went to the rodeo and to see Keith Urban. We put ear plugs in Lily's ears, and she fell asleep on my lap. Keith Urban sang a song called "Without You," which I love. One verse says,
Along comes a baby girl
And suddenly my little world
Just got a whole lot bigger
And people that I barely knew
They love me cause I'm part of you
Man it's tough to figure
As I sat there trying to be perfectly still, I thought of all those concerts I'd been to and just how different life is now, and how much I love it. I thought of how true those lyrics are. I held Cole's hand and tapped my feet and felt perfectly happy. Even though this concert experience was so much different than all my others, the music still meant something to me for where I'm at in my life. For some reason, this is one of my favorite memories.

Eventually she woke up to enjoy the concert :)

a girl and her pillow pet.

For Christmas, Uncle Blake bought Lily a panda Pillow Pet. We received it in the mail yesterday and we're finding many uses for it.
  • Snack time: To entertain Lily, Panda went speed dating (choosing the giraffe...naturally). "The Great Poo-pah Panda" also defended himself against an uprising in the animal kingdom. I'm discovering that my bachelors in English wasn't in vain after all.
Speed Dating
  • Play Time: Panda makes the perfect tool to deliver a Panda Punch, which is basically me wrapping the pillow pet around my arm and pretending to punch Lily with it. She thinks it's hilarious.
  • Educational: Lily points at his ears, eyes, and nose. She also gives him kisses whenever he gets anywhere near her face.
Thanks again, Uncle Blake!

lily's favorite book.

When Lily's playing by herself, if it gets too quiet usually that means she's eating something off the floor or chewing on my flip flops. I'll say her name and walk over to see what mischief she's managed. Today this happened and instead of rushing over to pull paper out of her mouth, which is what happens 90% of the time, I found her flipping through the pages of her favorite book. Out of the many many children's books we have, she's always looking at this one. Cole and I have a competition over who can do the best Grover voice. My absolute favorite thing lately is when she sits on my lap, turning the pages of her books, over and over again. I love it so much. Keep it up, baby girl, you're making your bibliophile mama very happy.

confessions of an over-sharer.

It's no secret. I kind of love taking pictures of my baby...and posting them for all the world to see (on this blog, Facebook, and Instagram) because everyone must feel the same way I do about my baby, right? Of course not. I realize that I'm an unabashed over-sharer, but these pictures I take-- daily, hourly, minute-ly(?)-- I feel, will help me to remember her just as she is on any given day.

I posted this bath time picture on Facebook recently and someone commented, "If only life could be as simple and beautiful as baby Lily's." Her pure happiness in this picture makes me see life through her eyes. I realized how privileged I am every day that I get this perspective on life by spending my days with her. She helps make my life more simple, more beautiful, and more joyful just by being around her.

I can't believe she'll be a year in just about a month. Can you tell I'm getting nostalgic already? I just love being this girl's mama.
