Mexican Cruise with my Gringo Friends

Last week we cruised from L.A. to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta with three of Cole's best friends from high school and their wifies, whom I love! Here are the girls representing:

The better halves (L to R): Mrs. Shipp, Mrs. Kimball, Mrs. Ballard, Mrs. Porter

I will now give a quick recap of the trip.

Cabo: Risking our lives on a glassbottom snorkeling boat to save 50 bucks; Da-vid, our sweet boat driver; flying stingrays; leisurely boat ride; briefly snorkeling; swimming to the beach and sunning with the rest of the girls; great Mexican food at "The Office"

David and friends after snorkeling

I joined a mariachi band at "The Office"

Cooling down

Mazatlan: Bus ride around the city; pro cliff divers; "The Golden Mile," a.k.a. a block and a half of crappy shops; dirty beach; hot and sticky (Mazatlan was not my fav)

Puerto: Cobblestone streets; Jungle where they filmed "Predator"; zip line in the jungle; Mexican men that jumped out wearing Predator masks and called me Lucy Lui; lots and lots of good shopping; eating $50 worth of the best dang tacos in a thunderstorm with friends

Puerto rooftops

No Pasar! Predator Zone!

The boat was where most of the fun happened though:

Getting our final smooch in before the ship goes down

Dave climbing the rock wall after hours

Alex dancing in Johnny Rockets

This cracks me up

Cole and I got our National Geographic in the mail today and inside was this picture of the barreleye fish, which reminded me of a Colbert sketch that still makes me giggle with guilty pleasure. Here are his highly scientific observations:

Up, Up, and Away

Here are the only Polaroids taken from our Pa. reception. We had 20 giant balloons decorating the country club, but for fear of us floating away, we scaled it down for pictures. I kind of love these, and I hope you do too! There will be more digitals coming soon.

When Nerds Unite!

"I am not worried, Harry," said Dumbledore, his voice a little stronger despite the freezing water. "I am with you."-Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

You know you're a nerd when:

  • You show up 2 hours early to see the 12:19 a.m. showing of Harry Potter 6
  • As you wait, you play Scrabble and discuss your other favorite summer movies ("Didn't you just love Star Trek?!")
  • You talk about where you were and what your reaction was to Dumbledore's death, as if it was a real event and you get emotional anyway, even though you knew it was going to happen
  • You get goosebumps when you see the Warner Brother's sign floating in gray clouds, a sure sign the movie is starting
  • You scramble to find your HP t-shirt, Gryffindor scarf, and wand before you leave and you are disappointed when you can't
  • You once dreamt (or perhaps still dream) of being cast as Cho Chang and Tonks
This is a short explanation of Kelli and I's night yesterday. It was perhaps simultaneously the nerdiest and coolest night I've had in a long time. I love Kelli for being such a die-hard with me!!! We didn't get any pictures, but here is a visual approximation of our night--the emotion, the excitement, the nerdiness:

"I'm glad we were here together in our nation's capital"-Forrest Gump

Here are some pictures from our whirlwind tour of D.C. We saw: Arlington (Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, JFK's grave), Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, the Reflecting Pool, Vietnam and Korean War Memorials, and the White House. My favorite part was sitting behind the Washington Monument at sunset and watching the kite fliers. It was beautiful.

Picture taken by Cole at JFK's grave

Strangely symmetric

Abe Lincoln was a lot larger than we thought

Cole and I have the same expression in every pic

This was sobering

Korean War Memorial...the people who fought for my people!

Quick Post

Cole and I are leaving in 3 days to go back to Pennsylvania...finally! We'll be there for 2 days for our wedding reception, and then we'll be in D.C. for a day. After a week home in Utah, we'll head off to Mexico for our real honeymoon (with friends)! It's gonna be a crazy month, so I just wanted to get in a quick post and keep you entertained with some recent Polaroids. There will be more coming after our trips! Hasta la vista for now!
